Our
Model of Ministry
We all agreed from the beginning that we need
to advocate a model that is sustainable (avoids dependency),
reproducible (is modest, inexpensive, and simple), and God-honouring
(is Biblically based and committed to the spiritual well-being of
the children).
Although
initial capital investment will invariably be needed to get each
project started, the goal is to create a scenario where a church
assembly can sustain its project. It does not have to continually
rely on outside funding.
There
are millions of orphans out there that need our help, and although
building nice suburban houses or huge children's centres as foster
care facilities makes us feel nice, in the long-run it will provide
help for a privileged few and create dependence for long-term funding
from outside sources. In the current recession
We
therefore believe that the best model is to develop a network of
church-linked foster care homes within existing communities or to
create a church-run children's village on the rim of the community.
Thandanani
does not start, run, or assist orphanages. It does not
even begin children's villages or foster homes directly. We believe
that God has chosen to use local churches as the focal point of
His ministry on earth today, and we are therefore endeavouring to
build up churches and prepare them for this critical ministry.
